Make a toast- Win $5000

Seriously…thats no joke. When I’m not blogging, I work for a PR firm who represents RetailMeNot.com. They are the best coupon site out there….that’s also no joke. For the wedding season, we are hosting a YouTube video contest. The winner can take $5000 home!! Its times like this I wish I wasn’t inelligeble. I would be ALL over this contest. I would love it for someone out there who reads The Little Goat to win. How amazing would that be?

All you have to do is film a “wedding” toast and profess your love and appreciation to RetailMeNot.com. There are some sample videos on the site. (If you look hard enough, you will find sample toast starring me). With the Flip camera and webcams being so available, it shouldn’t be too hard to film a cute, short video. DO IT!!!

The media alert is below the cut, and you can find the full contest rules here. Get the whole story »

Etsy Tag Monday: Orange

The second color in our wedding is Orange. Bright, summery, and currently one of our favorite colors…Hence…Etsy Tag Monday: Orange! Short and sweet…lets get to it!

This Tangerine Dream bouquet is so vivid and bright! For the right wedding I could see one of Ardesign’s flower creations being perfect.

Damask is so lovely. This garter set would add a touch of class to a wedding. I may just check out Creative Bridal Solutions for my garter or envelope box.

I adore the blue and orange combination in this invitation set by The Extra Detail.

A floral bouquet alternative, this button bouquet by Kotton Kandy Creations is super unique and different.

A sunflower guestbook would make a lovely addition to the entrance of any wedding. Kate Blocher has custom books that are all pretty awesome.

DIY Matchbooks

It has become quite clear to me that I am in no way a DIY bride ….however, I love crafting, and would LOVE to be able to say I made some of my wedding items and favors. With that, I’ve been on a quest to find the cutest, most appropriate projects for my wedding to work on during my evenings at home. When I saw these matchbox covers on Style Me Pretty who had written about the idea from PaperMade, I knew I wanted to try.

The original intention was to have a sparkler send off, and these matches would help light the sparklers, and in turn be a favor for the guests. I asked our venue if this was a possibility…and apparently its a fire hazard. HA! Guess I won’t be doing a sparkler send off, but does that mean its weird to hand out matches? Maybe….but I’m doing it anyway.

A professional paper cutter I am not. I started this last night, and wasted so much paper, just trying to get the right size. I figure that there has got to be a better way…(I’m pretty sure that Style Me Pretty explains how to do it), but in true form, I just went scissor happy and eventually got desired results.

I bought a bunch of strike anywhere penny matches from eBay. There are other tutorials out there that actually deal with matchbooks but I like the boxes better. I picked up the desired paper colors, and last night got to work. The tutorial offers up a template if you are planning on printing your design, but I bought a rubber stamp and just used it instead. ML2010. Thats a Mick/Lauren 2010 logo now. The stamp I got should have been a little bigger, but I like the way it turned out, so no real complaints.

You need:

matchboxes
kraft paper (or any color or decorative paper you plan to use)
computer/printer (if you plan to print out your design)
ruler
Cutting Mat
scissors/razor blade
glue stick (or tacky glue)
pencil
bobby pins
cardstock

For me… I need to invest in a ruler, but I just used a straight edge from a book.

I’d suggest looking at their tutorial for detailed instructions, but its pretty simple. Pull the matchbox cover off and apart so its flat. Cover the sides with the desired paper, glue it back together, secure with bobby pins and wait for it to dry before putting the matches back in.

I get by with a little help from my friends

This process has been great. I am in love with the planning. I am also in love with my friends….as this process would not be nearly as much fun without them. They are also saving my ass in so many ways.

1) My talented photographer Eray is providing us with an amazing gift that is saving us a ton of money….If she wasn’t taking our photos, she would be a guest with a camera constantly taking pictures….so I guess her shooting our wedding is the only choice.

2) John is hanging our lights and providing any other technical/handy man needed stuff the day of the wedding.

3) Jay just offered to handle our day-of coordination. This is key, as per my blog post, that is stuff I have been stressing out about.

4) Esme helped me make a cute little garland for the engagement party.

5) The cake is likely being done by someone we know.

6) I need help finding hair and makeup for the day of….I have had countless people chiming in and giving me names.

7) Once more favors need to be customized, I know I have some folks who will help.

8 ) Even a few of my girlfriends in So Cal are helping my mom’s friends with my bridal shower down in LA. (Volunteers being taken to help up here….)

9)  Our vintage movie poster save the dates were made by our friend Michael. He has helped us become….”The Beard and “The Fro.” The postcard is below. I had to share it…I think its amazing.

10) I’m sure I am missing more….my bridal party rocks, and I am soooo excited to continue planning for the next 5 months. So much more to do. So much help that my friends are giving. Too many names to list.

Thanks you guys…..this wedding wouldn’t be the same without you.

writing just to write

Do you ever feel that just because you have a blog, that you are required to write in it? I feel like up to this point I’ve been pretty good about 3-4 entries a week, sometimes up to 7. I don’t really have anything to say right now, so I’ve been kind of dark for a few days. I enjoy looking at my analytics and knowing that people are actually reading my blog. I sometimes fear that if I stop writing, people will stop….but I guess I shouldn’t feel obligated to write about nothing ….like I’m doing now.

Its been a pretty lazy Saturday. I’ve been staring at a huge pile of laundry for a week and a half that keeps growing, and I remember why I covet my own washer/dryer. But alas…with no water hookups, no washer/dryer. I’ll get it washed tomorrow…yah, I keep saying that.

I’m going to leave you blog world, likely till Monday, when I come back with an Etsy Tag Monday, and I want to share this video that my friend introduced me to. If you have 5 minutes, its worth the watch. This poor guy has been diagnosed with TB, but is making the most of his weeks of quarantine by making videos. Pretty entertaining.

Anxiety is starting to set in

Wedding planning has been awesome up to this point. So fun to find the DJ, pick the colors, find the dress and start to get all the little details sorted out. We even went looking at tux’s for the guys yesterday. So fun! But the dreams have started.

The anxiety ridden dreams. Like when I worked at a restaurant and I had the dreams of getting sat 6 tables at the same time and forgetting what they all ordered. Like when I was in school and I forgot where my classes were or didn’t show up for a test I had forgotten to study for. Like my attending a fancy party but falling into a pit of mud on my way. I fall into a lot of mud in my dreams. This is why I know that I need to start breathing and figure out some stuff in order to avoid having more of these dreams. I’ve already had a few wedding related ones. I wake up in sweats.

My organization is pretty solid for the wedding. I have an Excel file with guests names and addresses. I have successfully sent out the Save the Date cards. I guess my fear right now….is that I under estimated. I have sent out more cards than I thought I was going to. My catering manager quoted me at a number that I thought I’d be able to hit, but now…I think I may be over. The worst part, is that I wont really know where I’m at until the RSVP’s start coming in….and that happens AFTER the invites go out, which is in a few months. Sacrifices on things that I had wanted at my wedding may have to be made.

I’m in a state of needing to please, and I’m in a state of sheer terror that things will be forgotten and that I will forget something major. I need to keep a list of things that have to get done in the next 5 months. I need to tier them out according to a time line. I’m getting freaked out every time I log into The Knot and the tell me how many days till my wedding. I obviously don’t need to write the menus until I know what we are eating. I don’t need to do table assignments until I know who is coming. The last few months will be filled with to-do’s. Who is in charge of making sure everything gets done the day of the wedding? I obviously will be getting pampered and dressed. Is someone that I invited going to take that role? These are all my nerves talking right now. I need to throw a good party. I want everyone to be happy. But I definitely want to make sure that I continue to have fun in this process and make the day about us….no one else.

Rant over.

Etsy Tag Monday: Red

We have four colors for our wedding. All of them are bright and bold and perfect for a summer wedding. I have decided that for the next few weeks, my Etsy Tag Monday will be using the colors, but specifically in the wedding category. The first of the four is RED. I figure while I’m browsing for the little details for my wedding, I might as well share them with you! I’ve included a few more items than I usually do…it was so hard to choose!

I fell in love with these pompoms today. PartyPom has a ton of colors and sizes…definitely a great addition to any decor.

I would make a point of finding a reason to use these LOVE tags from Perch Papier.

This asymmetrical rose necklace by Maria Elena Jewlery would be a lovely bridesmaid accessory.

Crafty Crew makes this Crafted Ash Wood Wedding Wishes Address File Box. I think that this would be a great way to have your guests leave a little note and to collect their addresses in the process. Its pretty too!

This little clutch could be used for the bridal party, or as the brides accessory as well. TulipCouture will custom make them as well.

Its fairly obvious what this garter from BellaPrincessBridal would be used for…super sexy to boot.

If I was having a beach themed wedding, this coral ring bearer pillow by WhistleThistleBridal would be perfect!

I have a Star Wars geek fiance, and I’m sure others do too! How perfect are these Storm Trooper cuff links by CrimsonKing.
